Darte Pro mientras dure.
Qué no guardamos
Tu voz.
Privacy notice

In short:
We store the minimum needed for the app to work: who you are if you sign in with Google or Apple, your progress and your mistakes.
We do not sell your data, there are no ads and we do not store your voice.
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, from the app itself, and stop being counted in the statistics with one button.
Who is behind it
Palique is a personal project in development for practicing spoken French and English, on the web and in an iPhone app. It is made by Nery Rivera, a computer science student currently living in France, who is responsible for your data (the "data controller").
What we store, why and for how long
The European data protection law (GDPR) also asks us to say on what basis each piece of data is used. There are three here:
To provide the service: you need it to use the app (GDPR, art. 6.1.b).
Legitimate interest: to improve the app and keep it safe; you can object (art. 6.1.f).
Your consent: because you asked for it; you can withdraw it at any time (art. 6.1.a).
What
Why and on what basis
How long
Name and email from your Google or Apple account, and your picture if you sign in with GoogleOnly if you sign in with an account
To know it is you and show your name. We never see your password. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive an Apple relay address. To provide the service.
As long as you have the account. If you do not sign in for 2 years, it is deleted with everything in it.
Your level, your progress and your answers to the start questions, including your age range (for example, "18 to 24"; never your date of birth)Only if you sign in with an account
So you do not lose your progress when you switch devices, and to check you are old enough to use Palique. The range is also counted, without your name, to know which ages use Palique. To provide the service.
As long as you have the account.
Your mistakes: what you said, the correction, the explanation and the sentence it appeared inIn free chat
To show you your most frequent mistakes and prepare exercises with them. To provide the service.
As long as you have the account. You can delete them earlier from the app.
Usage log: each time you use the AI or the realistic voice, linked to your account if you signed inWhen you use the chat, the help buttons or the realistic voice
To apply your plan's limits and keep track of what the app costs. To provide the service and legitimate interest.
13 months. If you delete your account, it is no longer linked to you (and the rest of your activity is deleted).
Statistics: that someone visited, started a conversation or opened the Pro page; the language, the type of device and a random code from your browser or iPhoneUnless you choose "Don't count me"
To know which parts of the app are used and improve them. They are not used to know who you are. Legitimate interest; you can object with the button below.
13 months.
Microphone or voice failures, with the type of deviceIf something fails
To find and fix the failure. Legitimate interest.
90 days.
A message from Léa that you flag with "Report", and the reasonOnly if you report it
To review it and fix what Léa got wrong. If you have an account, it is linked to it: it is deleted if you delete the account and it is included when you download your data. Legitimate interest.
13 months.
Your permission to use the AI: when you gave or withdrew it and which version of the text you sawWhen you start free chat
To be able to show you gave it before sending what you say to Anthropic and ElevenLabs. Your consent.
As long as you have the account.
Your Pro subscription bought on the iPhone: which one, until when it lasts and whether there was a refundOnly if you buy Pro
To give you Pro while it lasts. We never see your card or payment details: Apple has them. To provide the service.
As long as you have the account.
Your email, if you ask us to tell you when the apps come outOnly if you write it for that. We also keep when you gave it and with which text.
To send you a single email when they are out, which says who sends it and has an unsubscribe link. We do not use it for anything else. Your consent.
Until we tell you, and 2 years at most. The unsubscribe link deletes it at once; you can also ask us.
Backups of all of the aboveA copy of the database
To recover the data if something breaks. Legitimate interest.
30 days. If you delete your account, it also disappears from the backups within a month at most.
What we do not store
Your voice. On the web, the microphone is handled by your browser, which turns what you say into text; on the iPhone, Apple's speech recognition does it, on the iPhone itself or on Apple's servers. Palique only receives the text. The recording used to "hear yourself" stays on your device.
Your full conversations. Messages are used to answer you and are not archived; only your mistakes are stored, as explained above.
Your IP address. It is used briefly for some daily limits and is not stored in the database.
Payment data. Pro on the iPhone is charged by Apple: Palique never sees your card or payment details.
Who it is shared with
Palique's server currently runs on a computer of the data controller, in France. To work, the app relies on services from other companies, which receive only what is needed and handle it under their own policies:
Anthropic: the artificial intelligence that talks with you. It receives what you say in free chat and what you ask the help buttons, so it can answer and correct you. It also receives the name you introduce yourself with to Léa, if you told her. It does not receive your email, your picture or your account. We ask for your permission before using it, and you can withdraw it in Settings → Privacy.
ElevenLabs: generates the realistic voice. It receives the sentences Léa reads out loud. If you use the browser or iPhone voice, it is not involved.
Google: to sign in with your account. Also, if you use the microphone in Chrome, it is the browser that sends the audio to Google to turn it into text.
Apple: on the iPhone, speech recognition (as explained above), signing in with your Apple account and charging for Pro if you buy it.
Hetzner (Germany): hosts the Palique server and its database, in a data centre in Helsinki (Finland), inside the European Union.
We do not sell or hand your data to anyone else, and there are no ads or third-party trackers.
Data that leaves Europe
Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Google and Apple are based in the United States, so some of your data leaves the European Union. These companies state that they protect these transfers with the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. The details are in each one's privacy policy.
In your browser and on your iPhone
One session cookie, only if you sign in with an account, to remember you for 30 days. The page cannot read it.
Your settings (level, language, voice), your progress and, on the iPhone, your first name are stored in your browser or on your iPhone so the app also works without an account. They stay on your device.
A random code used to count visitors without knowing who they are. You can turn it off: here on the web with this button, and on the iPhone in Settings → Privacy.
Your visit is counted in the statistics.
Your rights
At any time you can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, take it with you in a file, restrict its use or object to it, and withdraw any consent you gave.
See and take your data: in Profile → Your account, "Download my data". It gives you a file with everything that is yours.
Delete your account and your data: in Profile → Your account, "Delete my account" (on the web, "Delete my account and my data"). It is immediate and cannot be undone. If you have Pro through Apple, also cancel the subscription in your Apple ID settings.
Withdraw your permission to use the AI: in Settings → Privacy. Free chat pauses; everything else keeps working.
Stop being counted in the statistics: with the button above or in the iPhone's Settings.
Use it without an account: guided conversations work without signing in.
Anything else: by writing to the contact email. We answer within one month.
If you think we are not handling your data properly, you can complain to the data protection authority: in France it is the CNIL, and elsewhere, the one in your country.
Léa corrects you and suggests exercises, but she does not make decisions about you with legal effects.
Children
Palique is for people 16 or older. It is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data; if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we delete it along with its data. This also complies with the US children's privacy law (COPPA), which protects children under 13.
If you are 16 or 17, you can use Palique. For everyone, Léa follows safety rules: she does not talk about sexual, violent or dangerous content even if you ask, she does not ask for personal details (address, phone, school, social media) and, if you say you are in danger or want to hurt yourself, she stops the practice and encourages you to get help from someone you trust or from emergency services. She is an artificial intelligence and can fail: if you see something that should not be there, tap "Report" under the message.
Changes
If what the app stores changes, this notice will be updated and the date above will change.
